| | March 20204EditorialAccording to Gartner, the major trends reshaping the K12 technology landscape are skills based curriculum, AI, adaptive learning, e-sports and immersive technologies like AR and VR. In light of these advancements, the governments have also lent a helping hand to welcome this transformation through several regulatory measures. Although the primary concern for schools remains the same, which is the enhancement of student learning by using technology, schools are gradually going further ahead and shifting their focus to interactive ways for learning in addition to refurbishing their IT infrastructure. It is increasingly becoming about allowing the students to learn on their own in the guidance of a tech-savvy teacher who has access to start-of-the-art technology tools. More importance is now being attached to the holistic education of students and their all-round success at the institution and not just academic performance. Although the teacher continues to be the guiding light, his/her role has undergone a mutation of sorts wherein he/she has to play the role of an enabler. Instead of feeding information to students, teachers now have to play the role of a facilitator. One of the technologies that is empowering teachers to assume this role is artificial intelligence. The technology is being touted to have the capability of allowing teachers more time to pay their attention to human-specific teaching skills, replacing the monotonous tasks. Then there are immersive technologies like virtual and augmented reality that have been creating new opportunities in teaching and learning. As the technologies become more affordable, we are going to see their usage surge in K12 education. In order to leverage these opportunities, several solution providers are developing innovative solutions.
