Video Sharing Platforms: A new normal in Online Learning Space 2020

Today, everyone knows that a seamless communication would be needed to carry out an online learning. Hence today, especially in these times of pandemic, it is quite certain that remote communication has become increasingly important.

And if we consider the onliner learning segment, one trend that is going to bring and has been already bringing some needed innovation in the market is new and improved video conferencing apps.  We can say that online learning has become the new normal way in the  education system today.

It is expected that the synchronous tools will bring online education to the next level. Today, with the advancements in technology, and several web-conferencing tools, we are witnessing numerous video-conferencing apps that are being designed and developed to meet the growing demand, especially from the online learning segment. Features such as document sharing and screen sharing are significantly bringing down the wall for video conferencing use in the learning segment.

As we are witnessing the education segment reaping every benefit that is being provided by technology today. Video-conferencing and its growing features will undoubtedly take online education to its next level, where seamless remote-learning can be possible. As to the concerns of bandwidth, the 5 generation network is right at our doorstep today, and would be extremely important to spread online learning through seamless video-conferencing and others video-driven learning methodologies.

Andrews, Tynan, Smyth &  Vale, once quoted, “A key aspect of this is the consideration of approaches to capitalizing on the capacity of video communications to reduce isolation and increase personalization of learning experiences for distance students. Indeed there is now scope for the empowerment of distance learners and an opportunity to offer a much wider choice of strategies intended to enhance and support learning (Smyth & Zanetic, 2007). Indications from the research literature are exciting.”

All these apps related to video-sharing would hold a great potential for online education with seamless real-time chats, video discussions and other stuff which can effectively bridge the gap between learner and the educator like never before. And especially in these times of pandemic, it would just be perfect if we look at the social distancing rules that the world has been put on to.

As all the feedback would create a perfect space for discussion of various concepts and ideas with help of a synchronized communication, next-gen technologies bring with it many possibilities. But however, there are also many challenges that come along with it, especially when it comes to its implementation.  As with any educational technology tool, the purpose for using the tool has to make sense, and has to fit in with the curriculum in a perfect way to support learning and achievement of the course objectives.
