sTwitter has launched its first Community in India as well as the first outside the US to bring together cricket fans from around the world.

‘The Cricket Twitter - India’ went live on Thursday.

"We’re bringing this test to India with a community that will nurture one of the conversations that Indians are passionate about - Cricket. Members of Cricket Twitter can have conversations about the topic in multiple Indian languages," the company said.

Twitter began to start testing ‘Communities’ in the United States in September “as a way for people to discover and connect with others who like to talk and tweet about the same things as them”. Essentially, a community is a moderated discussion group where members can tweet directly to the group instead of all their followers. Only community members can reply and join the conversation. However, community pages and timeline are available to anyone to read, quote or report.

Admission to the community is on an invite-only basis. The moderators pick the focus and create the Community rules. These are in addition to Twitter’s policy.
