Three Emerging Trends Accelerating the Adoption of Drones

The adoption of drone technology across various industries such as agriculture, logistics, photography, mining, construction, surveillance, etc. is increasing rapidly as drones are finding more specific use cases in the day to day operations. With businesses embracing the latest drone technology trends, the drone market across the world is growing manifold. According to a report by Market Research Future, the global drones market is expected to become USD 129.3 billion by 2028. Several reports suggest that the adoption of drones is going to increase at a rapid pace in the years to come. In this backdrop, let us have a quick look at some of the key drone technology trends,

1. Drones for Quick Package Deliveries

Conventionally, road transportation has been integral to the logistics industry. However, the logistics and delivery companies are slowly moving towards implementing drones to deliver products to the end-customers by overcoming challenges with the conventional delivery systems such as traffic congestions, higher delivery costs, etc. Growing pressure for the last mile deliveries, increasing volumes of deliveries, etc. are some of the factors compelling e-commerce businesses to adopt delivery drones.  Amazon, the US e-commerce giant is working on to deliver packages using drones that help them reduce the delivery time and costs.  Introducing the drone onstage at a conference in Las Vegas, Amazon’s consumer worldwide CEO Jeff Wilke said “We know customers will only feel comfortable receiving drone deliveries if the system is incredibly safe,” emphasizing the safety features of their drone-based delivery system.  While the drone delivery models look so fancy, there also exist challenges such as delivering the packages at the precise location, ensuring the safety of the package etc. With Amazon and other e-commerce players already starting the test deliveries, drone based delivery is set to become a reality across the world very soon.

2. Drones with AI-based Sensors

The unmanned drones generate large volumes of data by monitoring various operations. This abundant data could prove to be a substantial asset if processes to derive meaningful insights that facilitate decision making. Integration of artificial intelligence into the IoT sensors of drones can help businesses derive insights from the data gathered using the drones. This not helps to derive insights but helps to automate tasks using drones, thereby minimizes the role of human being in business operations. AI-powered drones help infrastructure managers identify quality defects, inventory shortages much faster through proper analysis of the data.

3. Anti-drone Systems for Secured Activities

Interestingly along with the drone technologies, anti-drone systems are also witnessing increased adoption particularly in the military operations. Drones if not used with caution can be a threat to mankind. There are many cases where drones have cased security breached security, putting the safety of people at stake. This has led to the evolution of anti-technology which is also called as counter-UAS, or counter-UAV technology, that helps to identify, track and intercept drones. These anti-drone systems can be installed on towers, buildings, tripods, moving vehicles, etc.
