Passport Can Now Be Sought At Nearest Post OfficePassport is compulsory for anyone who is travelling abroad. The passport service is managed by the Ministry of External Affairs through different Passport Seva Centers present across the country. However, availing of a passport is now made easier by the India Post.
The India Post currently allows the citizen to register for a passport at different post offices present in India. For applying for a passport, the citizen can go to their nearest post office and ask for the same in the Common Service Center counters. The information regarding the same was recently tweeted by the India Post. The tweet stated that “Now it’s easy to register and apply for a passport at your nearest post office CSC counter. To know more, visit the nearest post office.” The CSC counter refers to the Common Service Centre here.
Previously, the service was provided by the Passport Seva Centre that already existed in different post offices too. However, to maximize the utility of India Post, the same service is now provided by all the India Post. These centres will now serve as an extension of the Passport Offices by providing all the front-end services with all the issuance of passports. The functionalities covered in the service will include token issuance which is required to grant application for issue of new passport, re-issue of password along with few additional services.
India Post Now Offers Numerous Services
The new system created by the government requires the applicants to be physically present in a Passport Seva Kendra of their choice along with application print receipt and original documents, which first needs to be submitted online. The services offered by India Post Office can only be availed by the applicants who have registered and applied online for their new passports. It should be noted that it is not possible to apply for a passport at the Passport Office. The same should be done online. India Post has been extending its service to pensioners and other senior citizens by recently introducing the Life Certificate service. Additionally, it has also introduced income tax return services too.
What Are Documents Required For Passport?
The documents required for applying for a passport include a birth certificate, voter ID, mark sheet of high school, Aadhar Card or ration card for carrying out the verification process. In addition to that, an affidavit made from a notary is also needed to be submitted. In the document verification process, a retina scan along with a fingerprint scan is also required. After the verification process of the document is completed successfully, the passport is usually delivered right at home within 15 days.
What Other Services Are Provided By India Post?
India Post has been functional for more than 150 years and is managed by the Department of Post. It not only helps in improving the efficiency of communication through its service but also helps strongly in the social-economic development of the country. In addition to postage service, it also offers services like Small Savings Schemes, Life Insurance Cover under the Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance. Additionally, it provides different retail services too. Pakistan Post which was created after the separation of Pakistan from India also provides financial services similar to the India Post like fax money orders, urgent money orders and electronic money orders.
