Nokia To Accelerate R&D On 5G And Emerging Technologies In India

Nokia To Accelerate R&D On 5G And Emerging Technologies In IndiaBy establishing a Centre of Excellence (CoE), partnering Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Finnish telecoms gear developer Nokia, this Tuesday, declared it will foster networked robotics, researching on socially relevant uses cases on 5G and upcoming technologies.

By incorporating robotics, advanced communication technologies and artificial intelligence, CoE is set to promote interdisciplinary research for creating use cases in verticals of emergency management, agriculture and industrial automation.

Statement released by Nokia says, “CoE supports and aligns according to the Government initiatives of Start-up India.”

Nokia also stated on utilizing existing expertize in next-gen network technologies and leveraging Nokia Bell Labs technical expertize on robot orchestration, robot network controller and human-robot interaction for aiding in the R&D of use case solutions. IISc is set to provide their expertize in algorithms, drones, and robotic systems alongside faculty and researchers.

IISc jointly stated that the collaboration will help IISc in building capacity and human resources development to develop cutting-edge technology of robotics, 5G and autonomous systems. According to IISc, this research will contribute to development of standards and inform research.

IISc’s Director, G Rangarajan, said, “The collaboration with global technology leader, Nokia, will prove to be helpful for the students in the long run. Students will gain knowledge and insights, contribute to the development of innovative and societally relevant 5G use cases.”

Nokia’s Senior Vice President and Head of India Market, Sanjay Malik said, “Nokia has rich innovation heritage. And now we aim to engage with the bright young minds at IISc for nurturing and creating advanced latest technologies for community development.”
