Jet Aviation Basel has selected Siemens to provide the software foundation for its future digitalization strategy. The company was looking to replace its legacy product lifecycle management (PLM) software system, which did not meet its requirements regarding openness and scalability. After a thorough evaluation, the Basel MRO and Completions facility chose Siemens’ NX™ software for integrated computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) and its Teamcenter® portfolio, the world’s most widely used digital lifecycle management system, as the basis for its future digital enterprise. These two solutions, which leverage the ISO standard JT™ file format, should help Jet Aviation Basel streamline its documentation processes and comply with the Long-term Archiving and Retrieval (LOTAR) standard, which is vital in the aviation industry. The roll-out will take place in several stages beginning in September 2016.

Jet Aviation Basel needed to accelerate its digital transformation and put its legacy systems to the test. In addition to storing data as JT files to support downstream processes, the company wanted to dispose of 2D drawings, while ensuring the new 3D process met all requirements for certification. Siemens’ digital enterprise software suite, comprised of NX and Teamcenter, met all of the company’s requirements.

“We need a scalable, flexible digital enterprise solution for design and PLM that is able to grow with us and support us in addressing future challenges,” says Mike Baker, Director of IT Solutions, EMEA, Jet Aviation. “Siemens offers a deeply integrated portfolio that is open enough to cope with the various data formats and standards used in our industry. We are pleased to partner with Siemens and look forward to working with them and implementing their PLM software solution.”

The seamless integration between NX and Teamcenter will enable Jet Aviation Basel to edit and manage data from various third party systems and use JT as its neutral standard file format. The system is also flexible and highly scalable, making it adaptable to changing needs as the company grows or faces new challenges within its market.

“In today’s economy, rapid changes and new challenges are the rule, not the exception. This drives the need for solutions that are scalable, flexible and open for various standards and formats,” says Hermann Kaineder, Country Manager Switzerland, Siemens PLM Software. “We are pleased Jet Aviation chose Siemens to boost its digitalization strategy. With NX and Teamcenter, we are confident the company can grow beyond the limitations of its legacy system.”
