Smart devices generate Big Data that needs to be processed and analyzed in real time and as such it places pressure on data centers, reports Amy-jo-Crowley of CBR. Gartner reports that by 2020 there will be 26 billion devices on Internet of Things and its suppliers will generate $300 billion in revenue. IoT are those appliances that have the sensor power and can connect to any devices with their own IP address. "Processing large quantities of IoT data in real time will increase as a proportion of workloads of data centres, leaving providers facing new security, capacity and analytics challenges," says Fabrizio Biscotti, a research director at Gartner. With the increase in IoT Gartner has warned the data center providers about the challenges that they will have to face in the future. As everything has become digitalized and people started using their devices in multiple environments, many industries have to face the security challenge. Gartner has raised question on user-privacy also. While using smart devices people share huge amount of data that can make their personal use of devices easily accessible which might be dangerous for users. With the increasing impact of IoT devices, the question on storage infrastructure will also arise leading to increased need of storage capacity to use data in a cost-effective manner. The present data center WAN links meet the moderate requirements of the people and IoT needs to increase the inbound data center bandwidth requirements.
