This is a piece of tremendous news for the country, which showcases the excellent R&D Ecosystem. This is regarded as an outstanding accomplishment to get a place in a league of highly innovative developed nations in the world. WIPO also recognized India as one of the leading innovation achievers of 2019 in the region of central and southern Asia because of its uniform improvement in the innovation ranking for the last 5 years.

The progress made in the global innovation index rankings is owed to the immense knowledge capital, the vibrant startup ecosystem, and the wonderful work completed by the public and private research organizations. The scientific ministries – The Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Biotechnology and the Department of Space all contributed heavily to the progress of the national innovation sector.

Working tirelessly for ensuring optimization of national efforts to bring policy led innovation in EVs, biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Space, alternative energy source, it released the India Innovation Index last year, which is widely accepted as the major step in the direction of decentralization of innovation in the Indian states. There is a constant thrust in monitoring and evaluating India’s position in the global rankings, which is provided by the NITI Aayog, including the global innovation index.

Aiming high, India is exerting double efforts, for improving the ranking in the global innovation index. For aligning with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Aatma Nirbhar Bharat, India has to start competing with the global superpowers in developing scientific interventions. India must bring a paradigm shift and should aim to be in the top 25 list in the upcoming global innovation index rankings.
