How to Prevent a Security Data Breach to Your SiteSecurity data breaches can truly impact the overall success of your website. Unfortunately, hackers are everywhere and no webpage is safe from being targeted. Even a relatively small or minor breach can cause the eventual ruin of your business. For this reason, it is essential that you use several methods and tools to keep yourself, your customers and your business name protected.

Strengthen All Passwords

Weak passwords can be easily decoded and used against you. These include simplistic passwords that are relatively easy to figure out or decode with special software programs used by hackers. By strengthening your passwords, you are able to easily and quickly avoid a security breach by hackers. These passwords should contain multiple uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. If your customers are allowed to sign into any account or page through your site, require that they use strong passwords as well.

Use Log Management

The beauty about log monitoring by Loggly is that it allows you to see if unusual activity is detected. This will come as an alert that can be sent via database, email, text message or by phone call. You can then take the steps necessary to fix the problem, sealing the hacker out and away from the internal system of your website. Unfortunately, many hackers can gain access to a website through an outdated script or glitch in the system. By finding these errors and repairing them quickly, you're benefiting the future of your site.

Update Software

Outdated software can be an easy target for individuals trying to breach your system. This is because many of this software is full of bugs, glitches and errors that are easy to essentially decode and manipulate by those who know what they're doing. In turn, this gives the person access to important site information, data and coding that can then be further manipulated against you. Updating your software can prevent bugs in the system, which can keep those hackers out.

Look for Phishing Emails

Phishing emails are incredibly common and can affect many people regardless of whether or not they have a domain. However, as a business owner, opening and clicking on a phishing email could mean trouble for your personal information. These emails often look real and as though they're coming from actual companies, but they typically won't use first names and will have a false email address attached to the message. If you receive any email that could be considered suspicious, avoid opening it altogether and if you do open it, do not click on anything or provide any information that could be used against you or the company that you're running.

Use Encryption

Encryption is a lot easier than you might think and can be highly beneficial to your website and its future security. Encryption typically involves encoding information on a server that can only be accessed by authorized parties. While encryption can still be hacked into, it is a protective layer of security to keep out the less tech-savvy individuals who are trying to obtain access to this data.
