sFormer US President Donald Trump is beginning his own social media network after facing bans from Facebook and Twitter. Trump’s social media platform will be called “TRUTH Social” and it will “stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.” The social media app is likely to be the first project of the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) after its merger with Digital World Acquisition Group with the former US president as the chairman.

"We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favourite American President has been silenced," Donald Trump said in the statement, targeting both Twitter and Facebook.

The former president of the US saw his social media accounts getting either temporarily suspended or even banned because of his controversial posts, mostly after the attack on the Capitol back in January. During his presidency, Trump time and again talked about putting a leash on Big Tech, which includes companies such as Facebook and Google. It was then Trump and his advisers hinted at developing a rival platform to Facebook and Twitter, so the announcement about the “TRUTH Social” does not come as a surprise, but what it will be like is anyone’s guess right now.

The newly merged entity, chaired by Trump, will form “a rival to the liberal media consortium”, the former US president said in the statement. The company, according to the press release, was formed through a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC. In the words of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, a SPAC is a “popular vehicle for various transactions, including transitioning a company from a private company to a publicly traded company." Such companies are also often known as “blank check companies.”

Trump’s new social media platform “TRUTH Social” is up for pre-registration in the Apple App Store, and a beta version will be available to only invitees starting November. But a country-wide rollout is expected to happen in the first quarter of 2022.

A few months back, Trump’s longtime aide Jason Miller launched his own social media company called GETTR, but Donald Trump did not confirm that he would join this platform. Instead, he stressed he would have his own social media platform. He said, “I am not on any social media platform in any way, shape, or form, including Parler, GETTR, Gab, etc. When I decide to choose a platform, or build or complete my own, it will be announced.Thank you!"
