Dell Inspires a Powerful Amalgamation of Creativity and Technology through its Multi-City 'Designathon'Hosted as part of Dell EMC Forum, Dell Designathon is a 24-hour challenge oriented event, focused on businesses and companies that rely on design for developing products and solutions. Via Dell Designathon, Dell India is reaching out to the design community from various industries including manufacturing, architecture, engineering and construction, media & entertainment, as well as design institutions in 4 cities – Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Dell Designathon received a remarkable response with 170 registrations from across these verticals.

With the understanding that design and technology go hand in hand, right from concept to end product, this platform gave design teams access to cutting-edge technology with Dell Precision workstations. Endorsed by the India Design Council, an autonomous body of the Government of India and Association of Designers of India (ADI), Dell Designathon is supported by Independent Software Vendor (ISV) partners such as Adobe and Siemens and technology partners like 3D Connexion and Kensington.

Shortlisted teams in all four cities created conceptual designs to showcase their vision of a sustainable & inclusive future and a human-machine synergetic future. Teams were invited to design across the following categories: products, Living, mobility, and home.

Of the 40 teams across cities, following are the winners of Dell Designathon:

· Mumbai: Design library for their GeSeGo Smart Wearable Device

· New Delhi: T&M Services Consultant Pvt Ltd for their futuristic Bus tracking system

· Hyderabad: Verizon Pvt Ltd for their Unique Multipurpose Holographic Smart Keyboard

· Bengaluru: Edge Verve Systems Limited for their vision of fight against crime in 2030

Speaking at the final leg of Dell Designathon in Bengaluru, Indrajit Belgundi, General Manager, Client Solutions Group, Dell, India said “Dell has long catered to design-intensive industries which utilize technology for visualization and development of new products or solutions. The first ever Dell Designathon in India saw high participation from design-led verticals to conceptualize unique and out-of-the-box design ideas across all cities. The event format, as well as the technology from Dell Precision, was incredibly successful with the participants. We see great potential in the winning ideas and look forward to develop this into reality.”

Srihari Palangala, Director and Head of Marketing at Dell EMC said “With a concept like Dell Designathon, our intention has been to encourage breed of designers to generate ideas for a better future. The event has proved that when you combine two strong elements like design and technology, it can do wonders”.

Dell Designathon participants had access to high-performance technology from Dell’s powerful Precision line-up of workstations including the Precision All in One 5720, Precision 5810, Precision 7910, Dell 43-inch Ultra HD 4K monitor, 3Dconnexion Space Navigator and Kensington Track Ball.

Process:

Based on abstract submissions, 10 teams were selected by the jury across the 4 cities to compete in the on-ground challenge. Teams were required to create drawings on-site, followed by 3D/ 2D models of their design on Dell’s Precision workstations. Teams were then asked to submit a 60-second product film in the final stage of the competition. Dell ensured that all teams had a level playing field, with all tools and solutions, provided by Dell and its partners. The series kick-started with its first set of shortlisted design teams in the city of Mumbai, followed by events in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.
