Data Centre Market in India Offers $4.9 Billion Investment Opportunity

With reference to JLL report, data centre market in India to provide an opportunity of $4.9 billion investment by the year 2025.

The report predicted that data centre capacity in India is set to reach 1078 MW by 2025 from 375 MW in H1 2020. This opens up the investment door worth around $4.9 billion.

As per JLL’s H1 2020’ (re)Imagine Data Centres, curating digital economy report for India, data protection laws impact, witnessed increase shift from captive to co-location data centres and implementation of new technologies like 5G.

Edge computing and the internet of things (IoT) will drive sustainable investment for this asset class in the following five years.

The CEO and Country Head of JLL, India, Ramesh Nair, said, “India's data centre market will outperform over the next five years, supported by a combination of growing digital economy, increased investor interest and stable long-term returns.”

He stated that the growth in this sector will be accelerated by co-location sites. Lower upfront costs, heightened data security, uninterrupted services and scalability will enhance investments to reimagine the data centre space potential in India.

Ramesh added, “The 703 MW expected capacity additions is translating to 9.3 million sq ft of space, which will open up greenfield investments for real estate developers and investors to fuel the future development of the sector.”
