hybrid cloudCisco is teaming up with AWS to offer a hybrid cloud solution by which enterprises can build or run hybrid applications on their own data centers as well as on AWS and they can also move the application between the two.Hybrid cloud is the mixed utilization of the on-premises data centers and public cloud.

The Cisco Hybrid Solution for Kubernetes on AWS is built to make it easy for enterprises to run Kubernetes on-premise and to manage containerized apps compatible with the AWS public cloud. Kubernetes is an open source system designed by Google for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.

“Containers are the way applications are built today,” says David Goeckeler, executive vice president and general manager of Cisco’s networking and security business, in an interview. “The question is where they are going to run it.”

The product is the combination of services offered by both the companies. It will utilize Amazon's container deployment services on its data center servers and Cisco's management software that runs on servers, which are both based on the Kubernetes software.

“Containers provide portability between applications on-premises and in the public cloud, but they can be hard to use. That's where Cisco's partnership with AWS looks to provide a solution,” says Kip Compton, Cisco’s senior vice president of the cloud platform.

Cisco also partnered with the two major cloud providers, Google and Microsoft, regarding the Hybrid cloud tie-ups. Last year, Cisco partnered with Google cloud regarding providing the hybrid cloud solution that helps customers maximize their investments across cloud and on-premises environments. The solution assured to deliver cloud speed and scale, with enterprise-class security.

Lately, the worldwide leader in traditional data centers, Cisco is facing downfall in market value. The infrastructure that Cisco provides is already available in the cloud due to which all the enterprises are shifting to the cloud. It is getting difficult for the Cisco and the other data center companies to find the growth in the main market. Two years ago, VMware announced a partnership with AWS to provide its management software on the Amazon cloud.

The product will be available in December, but as software-only solution requiring only the Cisco Container Platform to run, and as a hardware appliance using Cisco Container Platform on Cisco HyperFlex. Companies will able to buy specialty hardware that comes with the software.
