Carerix, which supplies recruitment and staffing systems, has established a partnership with the creative Rotterdam-based design agency Online Department. This partnership is aimed at renewing the user interface on its Carerix software platform. The design is based on Google’s ‘Material Design’ philosophy. It means the new design of the Carerix interface looks logical, while buttons, text fields, graphics and transitions feel natural. This creates an intuitive way of working, which is aimed at maximising User Experience for recruiters, candidates and HR managers.

UX-Design: focus on end user Due to increasing digitalisation in society, it is becoming more and more important for business-to-business applications to be as equally user-friendly as consumer-oriented applications. “To be a unique and distinctive software supplier in the market, it is important to focus on end users and to consider the design when technically developing the software”, says Machiel Oskam, director and one of the co-founders of Online Department. “User Experience (UX) Design is one of our specialisations. Our approach is solely aimed at optimising user experience. One of our core principles is to always involve end users in everything we produce. It is not only about creating aesthetically pleasing applications, but also about creating applications that work; and user-friendliness comes first.”

Greater focus Carerix approached Online Department and asked them to create ‘greater focus’. Too many features appeared on one screen, a lot of which were not used. Oskam: “The first thing we did was perform a UX Expert Review. This involved examining the software based on our expertise. We then requested feedback from end users. We also carried out observations to see how users performed certain actions and whether a faster and more efficient approach was possible. The most difficult thing is to make something simple.”

Machiel Oskam is satisfied with the partnership with Carerix:

We work best with clients like Carerix, who are open to feedback received from their end users. We help IT companies eliminate the day-to-day frustrations experienced by users. Carerix is effective because it listens to the needs and preferences of its users.

Reinald Snik, director at Carerix, is also pleased with the partnership: “Online Department is a design partner that has superb understanding of the psychology behind interaction. Our new interface has been fully optimised and coordinated with various target groups. We develop software that focuses on candidate experience, while using concepts like ‘mobile first’. But customer and user experience is also important to make sure recruiters and hiring manager can work as efficiently as possible with a variety of devices. We will keep working closely with Online Department to introduce continuous improvements based on feedback from the market.”
