Scientist Dr Saman Habib has been elected as the fellow of Indian National Science Academy

Through Dr. Saman Habib’s (Chief Scientist and Professor (AcSIR) in Molecular Biology Division) outstanding work for understanding the malaria parasite, CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow brought the laurels to the Institute again. For this, she has been elected as fellow of Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi.

Her research group’s interest in the malaria parasite is said to be driven by the desire to understand mechanisms of protein translation employed by Plasmodium organelles. Also, the molecular workings and functions of the relict plastid of Plasmodium, andthe human genetic factors and susceptibility to severe P. falciparum malaria in endemic and non-endemic regions of India, is said to drive  them in their mission.

With the objective of harnessing scientific knowledge for the cause of humanity and national welfare, while also promoting science in India, the Indian National Science Academy was  established in January 1935. They have since then made significant promotion of scientific knowledge in India.

While its major objectives are to coordinate among Scientific Institutions, Academies, Societies, Government Scientific Departments and Services, safeguarding the interests of scientists in India, act as a body of scientists of eminence for the promotion and also to present internationally the scientific work done in the country.
