According to sources, the Personal Data Protection Bill, which regulates the usage of an individual’s data by the government and the private companies, will be taking some time to get amended. For examining and study the bill, the joint parliamentary committee will get three more months for submitting the findings and reports. The committee, constituted in the Lok Sabha in December, had to submit the report in the Budget session. The committee got one extension, after which it was asked to submit the report by the second week of the monsoon session of Parliament.
Now, the committee will have to submit the report in the second week of the winter session of the Parliament, which starts in December, as per said by the official statement.
The bill comes into the protection of the individuals’ privacy, related to data, for which the rules on accountability of entities processing such data was cleared by the Cabinet in December last year, giving unlimited power to the centre.
IT Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said last year, “Since the bill is compassionate (towards the needs of citizens) and other countries are also looking forward to this law, the bill should be discussed by a committee comprising members from both houses of the Parliament."
