As an alternative to Google and Apple, Govt plans on launching its own app store

In a bid to make the country more self-reliant, an alternative app store is about to be launched in India against Apple and Alphabet-owned Google. So the government is planning to launch its own app store so as further its Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Movement.

Without providing further details, the report said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government may ramp up its Mobile Seva App Store for this purpose.

"Android has a 97% market-share in India. So, we should intervene and handhold Indian startups," the report quoted government sources. The report also added  that the store would not charge the 30% fee to host apps unlike Google or Apple.

Also, making it mandatory for Android phones to be pre-installed with its apps, the government is also considering a plan, as per the channel's report.
