Amazon or Reliance? A Battle for India’s Retail Crown

There has always been the mention of two behemoths when it concerns retail sector in India, i.e., Amazon and Reliance, wherein, the two most influential figures - Jeff Bezos who is the CEO of Amazon, and Mukesh Ambani, who is the owner of Reliance Industry Limited has been on a constant battle for India's retail crown.

There has been constant arguments and debate about who will top the chart for quite a while now. Hence, the moment of truth is at our hand now, wherein, people will finally know to whom that India’s retail crown belongs.

According to credible sources, the arbitration proceedings between Amazon and Kishore Biyani have been concluded by Former Attorney General of Singapore, V.K. Rajah last friday, October 16 and will be delivering  his ruling on or before Monday, October 26.

The former Attorney General of Singapore will be the sole arbitrator in the Amazon vs. Future vs. Reliance arbitration matter. The hearing is said to have lasted for 5 hours. The arbitrator V.K. Rajah said that he would deliver his judgment on or before Monday. The hearing is said to have lasted for almost 5 hours where the arbitrator V.K.

His judgement will decide the fate of the deal between Reliance and the Future Group. While Amazon's investment in FCPL was said to be around Rs 1, 500 crore; an insignificant amount for Jeff Bezos who is currently the richest man in the world and CEO of Amazon.

Indirectly aimed to prevent Reliance's attempt to establish its leadership position in the Indian retail sector, Amazon's legal salvo at Future will be a roadblock for the behemoth of Indian retail industry Reliance.

Analysts see this as a war for control over India's retail sector between world's richest man Jeff Bezos, who currently has an accumulated net worth of $204.6 billion and Mukesh Ambani, who in other hand is the richest man in India with net worth $ 88.4 billion.
