According to Byrati Basavaraj, who is the current Urban Development Minister, “the state government has requested the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs to include four more cities for Karnataka for the Smart City project.“
The Karnataka’s Minister said that the cities such as Mysuru, Ballari, Vijaypura, and Kalaburagi should also be included in India's smart city project.
Also, the minister has also admitted that the works under the Smart City project across seven cities selected earlier has not been up to the mark at all. But however, he was totally assured that the pending projects would be completed at the earliest.
Basavaraj added that there was no dearth of funds for taking up development works in urban areas. “The fall in GST collection and other taxes has not hampered our works as we have received sufficient funds from the Centre,” he said.
