Tesla are in talks to set up a research centre in Bengaluru

Tesla who is the world’s most valuable carmaker, is expected to set up a research center in Bangalore. And hence for the same, they are discussing with the Karnataka government.

A followup meeting is expected later this month, they said, during which the state officials are expected to present a detailed proposal to the Tesla executives. “Tesla has shown initial interest to invest in a research and innovation centre in Karnataka and the talks are at a preliminary stage,” said one of the people cited above, but didn’t elaborate further. Tesla CEO Elon Musk had also cited in July that the company’s luxury electric cars will come soon to India hopefully.

Also, India would be the only country other than the US where Tesla will have a research centre. While, Bangalore has been the host for local and global companies including Bosch, Daimler, Mahindra Electric. Moreover, promising EV startups which include Sun Mobility, Ather, and Ola Electric are also situated in Bangalore.

Musk had tweeted in the month of July saying that Tesla will be eyeing another Gigafactory in Asia, outside of China, “but first we need to finish Giga Berlin (for Europe) and a second US Giga to serve eastern half of North America”.  Also for a fact, in July, Tesla overtook Toyota as the most valuable automobile company in the world.
