What this means is that organizations need to move away from compliance and regulatory issues to developing risk based strategies and agile decision making environments. Talking in an India specific context, the recent demonetization drive had had a strong impact on the sectors of telecom, retail, e-commerce and fmcg, amongst a host of others. These segments were hurt the most owing to their dependences on cash liquidity. However on the bright side, the move has given much needed acceleration to digital payment service providers such as PayTM who have been growing at a significant pace. When CIOs fathom a broader view of the business operating environment, it has been anything but volatile, right from macroeconomic factors such as brexit, Trump's win to growing tensions between North Korea and the US, has the potential to change the entire working strategies within an enterprise in a matter of a few weeks. Coupled with domestic challenges, these variables are causing more crevices to an already unpredictable business environment. Hence it is imperative for CIOs to have an all encompassing and dynamic risk evaluation and mitigation framework. Such a framework would allow greater exposure to evolving technologies and unprecedented challenges on a regular basis as enterprises try to get into double digit growth figures. The CIO has the responsibility of to take a closer look at the risk portfolio and understand what could be potential factors that could jeopardize the growth of the organization. Plans that are future focused with regards to risk assessment need to take center stage. Case in point can be acquiring a smaller company, although looking at the positives is always a good thing, having a closer look at the risks associated with say adopting newer strategies, teams that are not used to the parent company's working methodologies, can severely hinder growth if proper precautions are not in place. Hence, in this issue of CIOReview, we have identified risk management solution providers who not only have the right tools, but are also well equipped to handle any future issues and are proactive to respond quickly to a rapidly growing market that simply does not have the time to fathom losses.
