The person goes into a spree of unfolding the entire stock of denims that he has in the store so as to convince you with one. When you have decided, you bargain and walk out with your choice of apparel. Fast forward 20 years. You want to buy a pair of Jeans; you open one of the online shopping apps in your smartphone, scroll through a plethora of options, narrow down on one, put your address and have it delivered. Pay online or pay when delivered. This is how far we've come in a score. Ever since Amazon began selling books online in 1995, retailers -- and plenty of other commentators -- have been asking what role, if any, physical stores might play in the retail arena. Some have gone so far as to predict the ultimate demise of stores, and others expound the virtues of various hybrid omnichannel solutions. It's not as bad as it seems for the brick and mortar retail industry. With emerging retail solution vendors for the rescue of the offline market, brick and mortar retailers can only level up their marketing strategies-there is no extinction. Flipkart owned fashion e-tailer Myntra has expanded its offline presence by launching its first offline store in Bangalore under one of its private label brand called Roadster. The store is automated with gadgets, touch screen monitors, virtual reality gears for better catalogue viewing. The store has also built a custom payment interface, which allows users to pay for purchases online using a bar code system. Omni-channel is the new buzzword in the retail world like eCommerce was a few years ago, and to a certain extent, Big Data was maybe a year ago. In this edition of CIOReview India, we have featured Cnetric, a provider of a `Universal Commerce Suite' that takes care of retailers' entire digital journey. Along with Cnetric we have shortlisted top 20 most promising retail solution providers. These vendors have shown capabilities to take care of various segments of your retail journey. Take a look and let us know what you think. Emmanuel Christi DasAsst.
