| |May 20174CIOReviewEditorialVOL 5 · ISSUE 5 - 3 · MAY 08, 2017Technology has a way of solving the problems that technology creates. In case of enterprise storage, new approaches to storage are emerging to attack the deluge of data pouring from Internet-connected devices and systems. We are seeing a major shift in how today's enterprise storage is being developed. The emphasis now is on data management at today's scale intelligent, software-based systems that provide scalable, fast and reliable data storage systems and enable organizations to focus on extracting value from data rather than managing storage. While smaller businesses are increasingly moving to SaaS applications and cloud-based storage in pursuit of lower costs and greater agility, most enterprises are going for a hybrid strategy, retaining a significant amount of storage capacity on-premises for reasons of performance, security, regulatory compliance, cost or the avoidance of cloud service lock-in. Among the enterprise storage trends, the leader is 'flash arrays and SSD', followed by 'backup, disaster recovery and archiving', 'hyper-converged infrastructure, software-defined storage' and 'big data and hyperscale storage'. The cost of flash media is now lower than it has ever been before, and is projected to become even lower as new storage technologies become more developed. As a result, there has been an upsurge in hybrid and all-flash enterprise storage solutions capable of much higher performance compared to the older systems. Another definite enterprise storage trend is that the demand for public cloud storage is expected to grow in 2017. Public cloud infrastructures are providing many benefits to enterprises, without compelling them to commit the space and hardware for an onsite enterprise storage solution. Most IT organizations are also deploying cloud to cloud backup systems to reduce the risk of data loss as well. In this issue, CIOReview presents to you 20 Most Promising Enterprise Storage Solution Providers who have successfully helped organizations with their innovative offerings. These companies pride themselves on keeping pace with the latest technological advancements in this domain. We hope this issue gives you helpful insight into this market landscape.
