| | December 20184CIOReviewEditorialYear 2018 witnessed different technologies making their mark in the industry and bringing about a disruption. Voice technology proved to be revolutionary. Consumers have been increasingly integrating AI-driven voice technology into their day-to-day lives. In fact, it has been predicted that in the foreseeable future, 30 per cent of all human interactions with technology will be facilitated through conversations with smart machines. Artificial Intelligence is another technology that attracted media attention in 2018. As AI continues to become an integral part of our lives, it has begun to merge into areas such as healthcare, where it is set to become a fundamental tool in the near future. Blockchain has proved to be another disruptive technology owing to its outstanding ability to make data transfer simpler and easier between entities. This continues to open up opportunities for many industries, most notably banking, because of its capability to process payments quicker and more accurately while reducing transaction processing costs. Blockchain has definitely reached peak buzzword status, but it is also finding its way outside the financial sector. Major cloud providers are now offering blockchain as a service for increased security measures. However, the adoption of these technologies has brought along new set of challenges. For example, while blockchain can be a solution to many challenges, disrupting existing businesses as well as creating new opportunities, it can also be an overly complex way of delivering solutions. Most businesses want to be part of the digital revolution and embrace technology to unleash productivity gains. However, there are some misconceptions about what to prioritize. Compliance and cyber security are holding many organizations from moving ahead in the digital era. According to a report, 43 percent think new technologies (like AI and RPA) would put their company at greater risk of a security attack. Hence, the industry needs pioneers in all these technology segments who can lead the way. In this issue, CIOReview India presents to you "Companies of the Year 2018" who have successfully helped organizations with their innovative offerings.
