In India, the cropping patt ern has changed signifi cantly over ti me. As the culti vated area remains more or less constant, the heightened demand for food due to the increase in populati on and urbanizati on has put agricultural land under stress. Digital transformati on is the way forward for the farmers to address this issue. This transformati on is only possible by adopti ng disrupti ve technologies and leveraging them to improve the complete process of crop producti on. Like many industries, technology is changing the ways farmers manage their operati ons. New developments in machinery, soft ware and geneti cs are allowing farmers to have more control over how they plant and manage their crops. IoT is one of the major technologies disrupti ng the agriculture industry and there is extreme potenti al for using the IoT within this sector. It is capable of simplifying and streamlining the collecti on, inspecti on and overall distributi on of agricultural resources using sensors on equipment and materials. Big data analyti cs is another area which can contribute to the improvement of farm producti vity. Developing farm-specifi c, data-driven diagnosti cs to determine soil health is a big opportunity area as well as biotechnological soluti ons to help improve soil health like soil amendments.
