UNICEL Technologies: Easing Mobility through Integrated Cloud Communications

By

A large public sector bank was on the lookout for an SMS solution platform that could simultaneously improve customer services and provide additional security against fraudulent account activities. However, the search for a cost effective solution was proving cumbersome as the bank had limited expertise in mobile enablement and they were not keen on technical changes to the existing production systems. The IT team approached UNICEL Technologies, a leading provider of Integrated Cloud Communications Solutions across SMS, Voice, USSD, and Email. UNICEL Technologies, founded by Managing Director, Vinay Agrrawal, offered ConnectOne, a messaging solution based on Short Message Peer to Peer (SMPP) protocol which is deployed at the customer’s data center and requires no programming on their side. ConnectOne directly extracts the relevant data from the customer’s databases, and then handles all the interaction with Unicel’s cloud platform for sending and receiving communications.

ConnectOne was deployed within a few weeks, at 1/10th the cost of the alternative product and with no additional software requirements. "Today the bank is processing more than 500 million communications through UNICEL’s platform each year," says Sanjay Aggarwal, CEO, UNICEL Technologies.

Such deployments are just a routine day’s job for the team at UNICEL Technologies. Having its headquarters in the Silicon Valley of India, the company thrives on the belief in the power of cloud communications to provide mobility services in a uniquely simple and integrated way.Having laid its foundation in 2003,a focus on new technologies is deeply embedded into the culture of the organization. The company identifies opportunities to enhance service quality, while engaging in extensive proactive research on the latest technologies that may help to solve business critical challenges along the way.

Easing Integration into existing platforms!
Taking into consideration the snags that enterprises face while adapting to a new platform, UNICEL provides a host of connectivity options for integrating into existing enterprise applications. UNICEL provides a complete range of communications services through APIs that customers can directly integrate into their applications, SaaS based applications built by UNICEL to meet many common business requirements, and customized solutions tailor made to business-specific needs.

"The APIs provide a wide range of connectivity options including HTTP, XML, FTP, etc thus endowing the enterprises maximum flexibility to integrate as per their preferred approach," explains Agrrawal.

Through GlobalOneTM, UNICEL company’s flagship enterprise mobile messaging solution, UNICEL enables enterprises to send bulk messages with a single push, track the delivery progress of each message and view detailed message analytics. Additionally, the solution offers integration on UNICEL’s Virtual Number platform, which allows enterprises to receive incoming communications from the user via voice or SMS.

Providing Higher Capacities and Scalability Through SOA
While many vendors rely on outdated database centric platform architectures, UNICEL chose to develop the e-Mobile gateway, (the company’s advanced convergent technology platform that brings innovation, functionality, security and control to the enterprise) on an ESB platform with SOA architecture to ensure market leading scalability, flexibility, and system throughput. The gateway has been built based on three basic layers, the Application, Middleware and Infrastructure layers respectively.

The application layer consists of user-facing components including web UIs, the customer APIs, and SaaS based applications while the middleware, based on an ESB platform, has been delineated to be scalable and flexible. The third infrastructure layer possesses the hardware and networking components on which the system operates, including operator-level integration of UNICEL’s own enterprise-grade SMSC. This in turn ensures redundancy and maximum platform uptime.

Moving forward, having to its credit the widest deployment of mobility applications across all industries, including ITES, BFSI, Retail, FMCG, and eCommerce, coupled with the best SLAs in the industry, UNICEL continues to grow at a rapid pace with a growing reputation for building mobility applications based on simplicity, latest technologies and efficiency.
