Napier Healthcare: Shaping India for a ‘ubiquitous health’ vision

By

Information technology has long been a treasured resource in healthcare, but adoption has been comparatively slower than in most other industries. Now, more than ever, it is significant to embrace IT, as it has become a necessary tool for transforming patient engagement, enabling personalized medicine—augmenting labor and contributing to better results. The healthcare IT leaders of today have gone further than just talking a good digital game. They are fundamentally changing the way technology is used for care delivery. Healthcare consumers, providers and payers are embracing the transformational power of technology, and it’s paying off in unparalleled efficiency and effectiveness across the network of care ecosystem. Healthcare is increasingly expected to be delivered to wherever and whenever it is required. For this vision to be realized the biggest challenge is information access and communication between care providers and their patients who are separated by physical distance. And mobile technology is apparently the best way to address these pain points. Headquartered in Singapore, Napier Healthcare recognized it and made it a point that all their healthcare IT products are developed to be mobile-enabled from day one with a plethora of in built mobile health features and capabilities. Napier Healthcare has close to 20 years of experience in providing software solutions in both the clinical and non-clinical areas of a healthcare provider’s operations. These providers include 25-bed to 1,500-bed hospitals, which have all successfully implemented Napier’s Hospital Information System (HIS), Laboratory Information System (LIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and other solutions that have yielded substantial operational and financial benefits, reducing medical errors and improving care quality from the day they went ‘live’.

Napier Healthcare is an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 27001:2005 certified provider of Hospital Information Systems, Laboratory Information Systems, Electronic Health Record systems, Electronic Medical Record systems, Nursing Home Solutions, Care Transition Solutions, Telemedicine systems and Home Care Solutions. The latest solution in Napier Healthcare’s stable is the Home Care solution–which exploits the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud and mobile technologies with today’s connectivity–and enables easy, regular and remote monitoring and tracking of patients’ vitals, such as blood pressure, blood sugar level, heartrate and weight. “The patient only needs to push a button on a smart device for each measurement to be taken and the data is automatically transmitted to an IoT gateway, which then routes it to Napier’s system on the Cloud, where it is accessible by the healthcare provider,” says Karthik Tirupathi, CEO. This eliminates the provider-patient gap as it also incorporates voice and video calls in the solution that allows for Tele-Consultations and even Tele-Rehabilitation exercise sessions. Hence, for the patient, this means minimal expenditure of time, money and energy on routine vitals monitoring. And for the provider, this means higher productivity, more patients attended to and more capital to invest in providing better care to even more people.

End-to-End management made easy: Napier HIS
Napier HIS (hospital information system) is a healthcare information technology (HCIT) portfolio that provides for all the information, communication and transactional needs of hospitals. Clinical solutions under HIS enable the management of every operational aspect of the delivery of healthcare services by the hospital, from handling nursing and physician documentation and pharmacy administration, to emergency operations, surgery scheduling and outpatient facility management. Financial solutions under HIS provide complete visibility into patient access and accounts, and intelligent tools for comprehensive monitoring, auditing and management of hospital financials.

Assisting the Doctors & Nurses as well
Napier has two mobile applications, eMAR & eMCS, specifically for enabling doctors and nurses to quickly access to a patient’s medical record for drug ordering and administration activities. The eMAR primarily assists nurses in the 5Rs of medication administration–right person, right dosage, right drug, right route and right time–and helps them to keep track of drugs planned and administered using a handheld device. Apart from drugs, a nurse would also be capable of seeing a patient’s medical chart with vital parameters including drugs prescribed, investigation orders and results, allergies list, and clinical assessment forms. The eMCS is a mobile application for doctors to gain quick access to a patient’s medical record. It starts by showing a worklist of patients who have to be attended to by a doctor. For each of these patients, investigation orders can then be placed, drugs can be prescribed, assessment forms and specific clinical forms relating to the patient’s diagnosis can be imported and filled in.

Having been in the business of healthcare IT for almost two decades, during which it has racked up an array of multi-specialty, multi-locational, multi-country implementations, Napier Healthcare will continue to offer affordable world-class products and services to healthcare providers, and continue to play its role in pushing the healthcare domain towards a positive transformation of simplified cure .
