GoDB: Implementing Platform Approach for Efficacy of Mobile Enterprise Applications

By

Enterprise outlook towards mobility has changed with time and the market landscape is orienting towards developing apps for business-to-enterprise scenario. As enterprise organizations get more indulged in the bring-your-own-device world, they need to move from a point solutions approach to an approach which takes into account the entire platform architecture. GoDB Tech Private Limited, headquartered in Chennai, uses this platform approach to help enterprises which struggle to scale applications or create a unified structure. Through its comprehensive enterprise application platform, the company enables enterprises to extend their business processes outside corporate walls. "We want customers to think of business processes in the sense of "Mobile first" rather than design processes for PC and later adopt them towards mobile." says Raja Raman, CEO, GoDB.

With mobile implementations influencing various business functions and strata of organizations like Management, IT/Admin teams and End users; the challenges being faced by enterprises are related to data security outside corporate walls, fragmentation of devices, integration of mobile apps with ERPs and flexibility of the system. To address these challenges GoDB brings the benefits of mobility to enterprises and provides seamless communication, better visibility, better control, increased reach and enables faster decision making with enhanced enterprise agility.

GoDB Mobile Enterprise Application Platform MEAP) suite, the flagship product of the company has over 200,000 deployments. The GoDB Mobility suite consists of four components – Server, Agent, Client and SDK. The application server consists of a web interface and an internal database for synchronization of the core systems (ERP/CRM/BI) with the enterprise mobile devices. GoDB MEAP Agent is a native library that consists of a local database for offline storage and a synchronization engine for synchronizing itself with the MEAP server. GoDB MEAP Client is a native runtime that consist of the GoDB MEAP agent as well as a Virtual Machine (VM) for rendering the User Interface and the last component is the Mobile SDK which is an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for visual development of cross platform mobile applications.

GoDB believes in first digitizing or mobilizing the last-mile processes to increase the end-user adoption rates and then brainstorming with the enterprises for re-engineering the business processes to take advantage of new capabilities that the mobile technologies bring. What works for the company is its platform based approach instead of bespoke/custom development by others. The strong sync framework provided by the company enables transaction on field with ability to scale seamlessly from 100 to 50,000 users. The efficiency of the company is a result of its decade long experience of 250 enterprise grade deployments with 200,000 users in field.
GoDB’s Mobility journey started a decade ago with its platform offering and today the company sees a demand for industry specific add-ons to its platform. It has worked with various partners specializing in specific domains like Banking, Insurance, Distribution and Agriculture to offer Industry specific apps. To fulfill this huge demand in the SME segment, the mobility solutions provider is offering these apps on a cloud model (www.cloware.com).
